FAQs
How much do your cakes/desserts cost?
All Wooden Pin cakes are custom made and designed by our team of culinary experts. Our pricing is based on the level of detail and quantity of selections. All mini patisseries are sold by the dozen. Please submit an inquiry with the details of what you are looking for and we will be in touch to create a customized quote for your celebration.
How far in advance should I order my cake and patisseries?
We suggest reaching out as early as you can, especially for bigger celebrations or anything that needs to be delivered, to give us the best chance to accommodate your date and vision. Our calendar tends to fill up more quickly from May through October, but we can often take on smaller or pickup orders with shorter notice. Don’t hesitate to get in touch, even if your event is right around the corner!
What size cake(s) do you have? And how many slices are in each cake?
Our cutting cakes (single tier) are 8” and serve about 25 slices. We can make up to a 5-tier cake, which has about 200-220 slices. We can supplement any additional cake needed with a sheet cake, which has about 50 slices and 2 layers of cake.
Do your cakes and patisseries have to be stored in the refrigerator?
We recommend that a wedding cake is allowed to temper at room temperature for a minimum of 2 hours, but no longer than 4 hours. In the heat of summer, especially outside, cakes should remain in the refrigerator until 1 hour prior to an event. We recommend that our patisseries remain refrigerated until they are ready to be consumed. They should not stay at room temperature longer than an hour.
Can we ship cakes and patisseries? / Do you offer delivery?
We don’t currently ship any of our desserts, but we deliver to anywhere within Aquidneck Island for a $100.00 delivery charge for any order over $400.00. We can deliver in Rhode Island outside of Aquidneck Island for $200.00 delivery charge for any order over $400.00.
Are you open daily with a storefront or by appointment only?
Wooden Pin is by appointment only. We do not currently have a retail store. Please fill out an inquiry form to learn more about our offerings and schedule a private tasting.
Do you take deposits or full payment at the time of ordering?
We require a 25% non-refundable deposit upon signing the contract to reserve your date. Final payment is due 30 days prior to your event date.
Do you have an order cancellation fee and timeline?
Our deposits are non-refundable. You can cancel your order up to 1-month prior to your event date before the final balance is due.
Are you responsible for what happens once a cake has been picked up or dropped off?
Wooden Pin will set up your cake and arrange flowers on the cake as per the agreement for delivery orders. We’re not responsible for what happens once we’ve departed.
Can you accommodate food allergies and/or dietary restrictions?
At Wooden Pin, we understand the importance of food safety and the well-being of our guests and employees. Our kitchen handles tree nuts, peanuts, dairy, and eggs, and while we use separate equipment and maintain strict protocols throughout the production and baking processes, we want to ensure that all guests are aware of the potential presence of these allergens in our facility.
Do we offer cake stands or patisserie stands to rent?
We do not have any cake or patisseries stands to rent or purchase at this time. We recommend discussing options with your venue or renting them from a local rental company.
Can we come in for a tasting?
Yes! We offer private tastings by appointment only for up to 4 people at our baking facility in Middletown, RI. We recommend scheduling your tasting 3-6 months before your wedding/event date. Typically, we can accommodate tastings Thursdays through Sundays between 9 AM and 4 PM from November through April. Once wedding season begins in May, we can accommodate weekday tastings between 9 AM and 4 PM and weekend tastings between 9 AM and 12 PM, based on our event schedule. Please fill out an inquiry form so we can review the details of your event before booking a tasting.
What do we get to try at the tasting?
During your visit, we will offer you a selection of four of our most popular cake flavors and fillings for you to taste, as well as a selection of six of our mini patisserie bites. You will also be reviewing different cake designs and your overall vision for your wedding, so please send us any inspirational photos that you may have so that we can prepare for your appointment or if it is easier, bring them with you!
Is there a fee for the tasting or to bring additional guests?
We do not currently charge for our tastings. Our tasting boards are suitable for 2-4 people. Due to limited space we can accommodate up to 6 guests in our tasting room, but the tasting board size remains the same.
What if we want to save the top tier of our cake to take home?
We are happy to provide a box for you to have your venue pack the top tier of your cake for you to take home, please just let us know in advance. Our recommendations on cake size to accommodate your full guest count include the top tier, so please let us know if you do not plan to serve that tier.
Can we freeze the top tier of the cake to have on our anniversary?
There is a tradition of freezing some of your wedding cake to eat on your one-year anniversary. If you’d like to do this, please let us know so we can provide you with a box, and so we make sure there is still plenty of cake for your guests on your wedding day. In our opinion cake is always best when served fresh, so we recommend enjoying your cake on your wedding day and reaching out to us for an anniversary cake! Ask us about our anniversary cake specials when you come in for your tasting.
Can you put fresh flowers on the cake?
We can put fresh flowers on the cake, but they must be provided by either the client or florist. For pickup orders the flowers would have to be dropped off 1 business day before the pickup date. For delivery orders please ask your florist to leave the flowers in a bucket with water by the cake table. Our pastry chefs will put the florals on when they deliver and set up the cake. We ask that these details are included in the contract. We are happy to review designs with your florist to ensure the proper items are ready on the big day.
